New service combines Yahoo oneSearch, oneConnect and onePlace

Yahoo has moved a step closer to its goal of owning the mobile web space with the official launch of Yahoo Mobile for the browser and iPhone.

Previewed at Mobile World Congress in February, and offered until now as a managed beta, Yahoo Mobile is available from today on more than 300 handsets with HTML-enabled mobile browsers, or as an application in the iPhone App Store. The service can be accessed from mobile handsets at http://new.m.yahoo.com.

Yahoo Mobile features Yahoo oneSearch, Yahoo News and Yahoo oneConnect, which bundles web mail, Yahoo Calendar, Yahoo Address Book and Yahoo Messenger, along with access to social networks.

The service will also offer Yahoo onePlace, which allows users to collect all the links to their favourite content in a single location.

Mitch Lazar, European managing director of Yahoo Mobile, claimed that customers are increasingly demanding mobile web services that offer improved personalisation, and allow them to manage all the content they need in one place on their phones.

“To further capitalise on the market potential, and continue our mobile leadership, we created Yahoo Mobile, a dynamic starting point enabling consumers to discover the world around them, stay connected through a variety of communication services, and customise content to define their internet experience on mobile devices,” he said.
