Woman jailed for teen sex

A FORMER canteen stall assistant who had sex with a 13-year-old boy was jailed for 10 months on Wednesday.

The 32-year-old unemployed woman admitted to two counts of causing a man under 16 to have sex with her on May 4 and 17 last year.

Between the two dates, the pair had had sex on five other occasions which were taken into consideration during her sentencing.

She is the second woman to be jailed for such an offence. In February, a 32-year-old former teacher was packed off to prison for 10 months for a similar offence with a 15-year-old student.

The married mother of two’s conviction came one year after the Penal Code was changed to make sex between an adult woman and a boy below 16 a crime.

On Wednesday, Assistant Public Prosecutor Kalidass Murugaiyan told District Judge James Leong that the accused, a divorcee, would leave her 14-month-old child in the care of a friend while she was working.

As the baby-sitter – the victim’s mother – did not know how to use a mobile phone, she asked her son to call or send a text message to the accused to ask her when she would be dropping off her child. That was how the accused started to call and SMS the victim.

On May 4, the APP said the accused invited the victim home. He agreed and after watching a movie, the pair went to her flat where they had sex.

Meanwhile, the accused’s sister and the boy’s mother became increasingly suspicious of her relationship with the victim.

The accused, who was suffering from depression at the time, could have been jailed for up to 10 years or fined or jailed and fined on each of the two charges.
