30 killed in Baghdad blast

BAGHDAD – THIRTY people were killed and around 100 wounded in a double suicide attack as they arrived to pray at a Shiite shrine in Baghdad on Friday, Iraqi officials told AFP.

‘Thirty people were killed and about 100 wounded in two suicide attacks targeting civilians in a market close to the shrine,’ an interior ministry official said.

‘The majority of the victims were people going to pray at the shrine.’ The attacks took place at the Imam Al Kadhim shrine in the predominantly Shiite neighbourhood of Khadamiya in northern Baghdad.

A defence ministry official confirmed that two suicide attackers were responsible for the blast. — AFP
