Man facing two charges for rape of teenage girl

Authorities arrested a Dothan man on 8th May 2009 Thursday and charged him with the repeated rape of a 16-year-old Dale County girl at gunpoint.

Napier Field Police Chief Charles Duncan said police charged Billy Bennett, 40, of Dale County Road 25, with two felony counts of first-degree rape, felony unlawful possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor second-degree possession of marijuana.

Bennett turned himself in to the Midland City Police Department where Duncan arrested him around 12:40 a.m. Thursday. He said the 16-year-old girl reported the sexual assaults to police Wednesday night, but they happened Saturday.

Duncan said the following happened during the allegations reported against Bennett:

Bennett picked up the girl as she walked on a road in Grimes on Saturday, offering her a ride to her cousin’s house. Bennett, who knew the girl, then said he needed to stop by his home on Denton Road, which is also known as County Road 25 in Dale County.

“He said he had to get something really quick. She went in the apartment and that’s when he attacked her,” Duncan said. “He dragged her to the bedroom by her hair, she screamed for help and he grabbed the rifle out of the closet and told her to shut up.”

She was reportedly raped twice over a two-hour period.

He said police later discovered the weapon was a BB gun. During a search of his Denton Road apartment they also found 15 bottles of prescription medications that did not belong to him. Duncan said Bennett lives at a Dothan address, but it is within Napier Field’s police jurisdiction.

Bennett was out on bond for a previous felony unlawful breaking and entering of a motor vehicle charge in Napier Field. Bennett was being held in the Dale County Jail on $140,000 bond.
