BEIJING, Yahoo Inc announced Wednesday that it bought Xoopit, a private company that provides technology to organize photo collections in Yahoo’s e-mail system.
Xoopit’s technology helps in the sending and sharing of photos through e-mail and enables users organize their inboxes as photo indexes, Bryan Lamkin, Yahoo’s senior vice president for applications, wrote on its official blog.
“For many, email is still best for sharing photos among a more select group of friends or family. And now we’re making it all that much easier for you.” Lamkin wrote.
With the purchase of the San Francisco-based company, Yahoo plans to add new photo features to Yahoo! Mail.
Yahoo did not disclose the price tag, and media reports said the deal was worth 20 million U.S. dollars.
Yahoo’s relationship with Xoopit began in December with the launch of the “My Photos” application in Yahoo! Mail.
