Tiger Woods ‘told friend his wife had gone ghetto on him’

Tiger Woods told a friend hours before his night-time car crash that his wife Elin Nordegren had “gone ghetto” on him, according to reports.

The World Number One golfer was found in the early hours of Friday lying in the road with his wife, who police said used a golf club to smash out the back window of his car and help get him out.

He was taken to Health Central Hospital in Ocoee, Florida, where he was “admitted, treated and released in good condition” later that day, according to a joint statement by his office and the hospital.

Speculation has arisen that Woods argued with his wife after she confronted him about allegations in the National Enquirer magazine he was having an affair with party events organiser Rachel Uchitel, claims she has vehemently denied.

According to celebrity entertainment website tmz.com Woods told a friend that his wife had “gone ghetto” on him and scratched his face. The website then claims that Woods attempted to drive away from his house in his Cadillac Escalade, but his wife followed him with a golf club. At that point, she struck the vehicle several times with the club and he hit a fire hydrant and a tree.

Woods was left unconscious for up to six minutes following the crash and was treated in hospital for cuts to his face.

Police said alcohol was not a factor although the accident remains under investigation. Initial reports suggested his wife had saved Woods, 33, by smashing a golf club through the window, and dragged her husband to safety.

He is due to be questioned by police today after officers investigating the crash were twice rebuffed when attempting to speak to the 14-time Major winner.
