Brittany Murphy’s last movie won’t be left on the cutting room floor, after all. Distribution rights to the late actress’ last flick Abandoned were aquired by Anchor Bay Entertainment this week, and the company plans to put the movie out this summer.
Actress Brittany Murphy, age 32, passed away suddenly on Sunday December 20th from cardiac arrest.
It’s sad and a tad bit morbid, but the company insists it’s a way of honoring the star. “Releasing this young actress’s last film is both an honor and bittersweet,” said Anchor Bay President Bill Clark (via E! Online). “It was important…that the timing of this release be right, because we’re sensitive to such a tragic loss.”
The movie also stars Dean Cain and Mimi Rogers, and follows Brittany as she searches for her boyfriend after he disappears from the hospital.
Producers of the movie issued a statement that read: “Brittany will be deeply missed by everyone who worked on Abandoned. The film is a taut thriller which portrays Brittany’s character as smart and tough—and that’s how we all want to remember her.”
Brittany died on December 20, 2009 at 32. The coronor’s report revealed she had multiple drug intoxication, pneumonia and “iron deficiency anemia.”
