Revealing photos of Carla Bruni, wife of French president Nicolas Sarkozy, will be auctioned today.
The sale comes as rumours swirl over the state of the marriage between France’s First Lady and Mr Sarkozy. French media reports have suggested both may be having affairs.
The two pictures were taken by renowned photographer Helmut Newton when Mrs Bruni was 25. One shows her scantily clad and leaning against a mahogany piano. It has an estimate of £3,000-£5,000. Last year, another picture of Miss Bruni was sold in Berlin for nearly £13,000.
The Italian began modelling at the age of 19, working with major fashion houses including Christian Dior, Chanel and Versace. She was among the 20 highest paid models for the 1990s. In a series of high profile relationships, Mrs Bruni dated both Eric Clapton and Mick Jagger.
She has also had a series of number one albums in France, with her most successful work, ‘Quelqu’un m’a dit’, selling over a million copies in the country. Mrs Bruni released her third album in 2008, soon after becoming France’s First Lady.
The photos form part of the auction house, Philips de Pury’s, ‘Sex’ collection.
